General Information for UWE Science Students on Placement 2004-05

This part of the Profile website supports UWE Science placement students and their work supervisors through the assessment of the Sandwich Year and Professional Practice in Applied Sciences module [PPM].

Availability of the e-portfolio

Through this website, you can access a highly secure personal electronic-portfolio [e-portfolio] into which you upload evidence of learning on templates that are provided. To access your secure area you require a login username and password which will be given to you. The e-portfolio will be available from Wed 10 Nov 04.

What you are to do ...

1. Decide between Sandwich assessment or PPM assessment

• Choose between Sandwich Year assessment or Professional Practice module (PPM) assessment. To help you decide, see  Assessment  link on the left.
• If you decide to do the Sandwich route, see  Sandwich report  link.
• If you decide to do the PPM, continue below.

2. The PPM and the portfolio of evidence of learning

• To be successful in the PPM, you will need to fulfil the requirements given in  Assessment  | Professional practice
• A large part of the assessment is the portfolio of evidence of learning at level 3.
• The portfolio is made up of a number of items and these are listed below and supported by the links on the left.

3. Components of the electronic-portfolio

The e-portfolio is made up of four web-forms and evidence that you upload:

• The first form is Placement details. This is self-explanatory and you provide your own contact details, name and address of the placement, and contact details of your supervisor.
• The second form is a Health and Safety checklist. Work through this form and tick off the items.
• The third form is the Learning Agreement [LA]. Read about this through the link   Learning Agreement  on the left.
• The fourth form is the Individual Task Template. To find out how to complete this form see  Portfolio Tasks   on the left. Complete a template for each task and store on your computer until the e-portfolio comes online. Associated with the Individual Task Template is evidence that you upload. 4. Visiting tutor [VT] visit and presentation

• Each student is assigned a VT who will visit you during the year and hear your presentation as part of the PPM.
