Having set your academic goals, now consider the practical steps to achieving them.

Approach one of your academic tutors and arrange a meeting  to discuss your academic goals.  Tell them about your strengths and areas for improvement, and go through your skills audit with them. Explain the academic goals you have set and ask them for input on any of these points. Discuss with them your ideas for how you can meet your academic goals and the timescales you will be working to. The notes from this meeting should help you to formulate a workable action plan using the Editable Word Doc.

To make sure you have all the feedback you need, show your tutor the academic  plan and ask for comments on its feasibility, the timescales and highlight any potential gaps.

"The plan helps you to think about your education in general and then break it down into key areas of consideration. I can only see this as a benefit in the long and short term."

Your Student Advisor can also help with matters such as:
  • how university regulations affect you
  • options relating to module choice
  • assessment regulations
  • withdrawal and transfer to other programmes
  • late work and extenuating circumstances
  • what to do if unforeseen personal circumstances affect your studies
  • fees and student funding
  • special examinations needs and arrangements
