Welcome to the website of profile.ac.uk

We invite visitors to explore the Profile project which aims to help university academics track, monitor and assess students while they are on work-experience placements.

 What is profile.ac.uk?

profile.ac.uk is a FDTL Phase 4 (Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning), HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England)-funded project that started in September 2002. Development will continue for 3 years.

The project offers a web-based system to capture the learning experiences of students on workplace experience and forms the foundation for awarding academic credit for work-based learning.

Initially, the system will be applied to one form of workplace experience, Bioscience placements, and will be used by its developers and pilot HE institutions. profile.ac.uk will be generic and will soon be available freely to all HEIs and for all disciplines where work-based learning is a feature.

 How this website is organised.

The website is organised for two main target audiences. This homepage and the links on the left are intended for higher education staff to explore the development of this project. The link on the right of this column is for students on placement and is the gateway to the material we use to assess students on placement. The material has been initially developed for use by UWE (University of the West of England, Bristol) bioscience students but can be adapted for use by any institution and for any discipline.

Please contact profile@uwe.ac.uk for further information on how you can use this site for your students.
