About Profile.ac.uk.
How is it funded?
Profile.ac.uk
is a
FDTL Phase 4 (Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning),
HEFCE
(Higher Education Funding Council for England)-funded project.
What does it do?
Profile.ac.uk is a web-based
system which provides a tool to capture, track and assess student
learning remotely. The system provides students with individual, secure
electronic-portfolios which contain web-forms to guide students through
any educational process.
What can it be used
for?
It can be used in numerous situations such as work-based learning,
placement learning, personal development planning (PDP) and continuing
professional development (CPD). The system is highly generic
and you determine the contents of the e-portfolios yourself as it is
based around web-forms which you upload.
Emulating tasks
involving forms.
Any task that is administered
through ordinary paper-based forms can be emulated on the Profile
system. Although originally designed for educational purposes, it can
replace any administrative tasks that involve forms, and therefore its
application is widespread.
How much does it
cost?
Hosting of web-forms and e-portfolios is free of charge to any HE
institution! Because it is not linked to any one commercial VLE (virtual
learning environment), use of the system is flexible and students are
not wiped from the system once they graduate, thus allowing for CPD.
